Evaluation<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n

With the requirement to creat a more airmobile army, what the ageing
\nAlouette
\nIII <\/a>could not offer\u00a0the Swiss Air Force evaluated a
\nnew medium sized transporthelicopter. In this evaluation the
\nA\u00e9rospatiale AS.332 “Super Puma” proved to act
\nsuperior in the mountainouse regions\u00a0to its contrahend the
\nSikorsky
\nUH-60A “Blackhawk” (S-70)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Transporthaubschrauber 89<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n

In 1987 the Swiss Air Force could
\naquired three Super Puma for a competive price. These three
\nhelicopters,\u00a0A\u00e9rospatiale AS.332M1 “Super Puma”,
\nwere delivered directly from the french factory and are called
\nTransporthubschrauber 89 (TH-89). Those three initial helicopters were
\nthought to test the helicopters instead of buying a large batch. It had
\nproved its ability in supporting civil authorities in natural disasters
\nlike floods which led to the order of a second batch. The second batch
\nincluded 12 helicopters,\u00a0A\u00e9rospatiale AS.332M1
\n“Super Puma”, which are also called
\nTransporthubschrauber\u00a089 (TH-89). In Alpnach the RUAG
\nFactory started to end assemble these second batch of 12 helicopters .
\nThe Super Puma is based on the\u00a0civilian tansport-helicopter A\u00e9rospatiale
\nSA.330 “Puma”<\/a> which was developed\u00a0 for offshore
\nmissions.<\/p>\n

Transporthaubschrauber\u00a098<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n

In 1998 the Swiss Air Force needed further replace for some more
\nwithdrawn Alouette III to suplement the medium transport helicopter
\nfleet. Meanwhile the Producer A\u00e9rospatiale has merrged with
\nMBB to Eurocopter which have the policy to have separate names for
\ncivilian and military helicopters. This led to the renaming of the
\nAS.332 Superpumas for military operators with the marketname EC.532
\n“Cougar”. The Cougar offers further a EFIS-glascockpit with advanced
\ncolour-displays, Flight Management System (FMS) and moving map. The
\nSwiss-Version of the EC.532UL were named Transporthelikopter 98 (TH 98)<\/strong>.
\nThe first two, T-333 and T-335 were assembled at the Eurocopter factory
\nin Marignane while the rest was assembled at the RUAG factory in
\nAlpnach. RUAG also retrofitted this thrid batch with a sofisticated
\ndefensive suite from SAAB Avitronics IDAS which RUAG called Integrated
\nSelf-Protection System (ISSYS)<\/a>. The ISSYS consists of
\nfour sensorunits with each a Laser Warning System (LWS),
\nRadar Warning Receiver (RWR) and a Missile Warning System (MWS)
\ncombined with four Counter
\nMeasure Dispenser Systems<\/a> consting 128 chaff- and
\nflare-decoys. The first two helicopter were handed over on the 16th
\nFebruary 2001. The last Cougar, the T-342 was drapped with a drawing of
\ncougar (mountain lion) next to the cockpit and handed over in Mai 2002.<\/p>\n

During the Axalp shootingrange trainings this EC.532
\nprovides liaison flights for guets<\/small><\/p>\n

The fleet of \u00a0the Swiss Air Force had been
\ncompleted in 2002
